I have a 1992 Silverado with 330,000 Kms or 200,000 miles, what degree would you suggest setting the timing at? Advanced or retarded? I don't believe it has been rebuilt and everything is stock. Thanks.

Mitchell is showing that the timing be set at 0 degrees.
remember to pull the spark timing by-pass connector out before trying to time the engine

Thanks for the info, but,where is the spark timing by-pass connector Located at? I've never even heard of one of these. I sure do miss my old 81 Camaro with a carburetor andzero sensors, so much easier to work on.

there should be a 2 wire harness near the distributor. Usually taped to another harness. There is a gray plug in it that should pull out.
With the key off, pull the plug, start the engine, the check engine light should come on, time the engine, turn the key off, replace the connector, and start the engine. Check engine light should be off and it should run good

I replaced rotor button distributor cap and spark plugs along with spark plug wires and ignition control module. It will crank but will not start. I dont know what else to do it is getting fuel and it is getting spark. Any help and advice is appreciated

Yes it ran fine and then after about two months is was getting ni spark so I replaced everything as stated before

I found this mysterious connector on my 1991 350 in a Silverado with manual transmission, if that matters. On mine, there is a plastic cover panel under the hood, mounted on the firewall, passenger side, with plastic nuts that can easily be removed. This cover is kind of "Behind the glove box" to help you find it. Lots of wires behind it but the one you need is there. Once the cover panel is removed, I found the connector for my 350. It's a thin wire, tan with black stripe and the connector looks fragile but it does come apart. All instructions I can find say you have to unhook this connector to accurately time the 350, but once the timing is set, be sure to put it back together. Good luck. If this is not helpful, maybe this cover is unique to the 1991, then no Idea where the engineers would hide the connector. Some writeups simply say "near the distributor".

I am not having a good time with mine beyond that point. Access to the timing mark on the vibration damper is almost impossible to get at to mark the TDC point with chalk. I am going to have my wife who has smaller hands try to do that operation so I can actually time the engine.
