Default 97 suburban torsion bars?

Hey everyone I have a 97 chevy suburban 5.7 l LT 4X4 K1500 suburban . Someone was telling me that i could gain about 1-2 inches of a lift if i tightened the torsion bars? i think i know where they are but what would i need to do to do this, take it to a shop or can i do it myself? what are the pros and cons of doing this? is it a good idea? thanks for the help!

you are only going to lift the front with the torsion bars ,why do you want to do this ? to level it out ? if you do it you will have to realign the front end or the tire will wear adversely . need a little more info please .

go on ebay and type in chevy leveling kit. it allows you to lift the front in roughly 2" without cranking the bars. cranking the bars alone will give a shi*tty ride, the keys wont be as bad. lifting 2" wont wear out the front end that badly.

I cranked up the torsion bars on my 1999 Suburban after I added the grille guard. A couple of turns on both sides, and I recovered the drop from the additional weight out front. No adverse affects have been noted so far. I did not want a lift; just wanted my OE height back.

Hope that helps,

-JR

I purchased a new set of Goodyear Silent Armor tires in LT285-75R-16 load range E right after the grille guard and torsion bar adjustment. Expecting a problem, I had an alignment included. If the alignment was off, they made it right. The tires have worn well, and there was no adverse affect to the ride quality. I was very satisfied.

Thank you,

-JR
