catalytic converter removal sensor bypass
I'm looking at headers and straight pipes for my '05 2500 with 6.0 Crew 4X4 and am wondering if anyone makes an o2 sensor cheater for the converter.

How about this as an idea. Could I put on the headers, run pipe all the way out the back and just weld a bung on the pipe to accept the sensor. Will this hose up my computer any?

O2 sensor works like a battery they generate voltage which is constantly changing based on the fuel mixture. A resistor WILL NOT WORK. Here is you best option. You will need to weld the bungs in. The front ones need to be as close to the original spot as possible these are used for fuel control. The rear 02 sensors are used to monitor the converters so they need to be tricked. When o2 voltage matches the front the computer thinks the converter is not working. Go to auto zone and get 2 spark plug non- foulers. Weld the bungs in close to where they were on the old pipe.Drill the bottom out of the non foulers. Then put the non foulers in the bungs then the o2 sensors. You may need to put 2 non foulers in each hole. This will set the o2 sensors futher out of the exhaust stream effective making the voltage different then the front 2 sensors. THE TRUCK WILL NOT RUN CORRECTLY WITHOUT O2 SENSORS.

I stand corrected, I didnt realize they worked that way. I take it a bung is a threaded peice that welds to the exaust pipe that the o2 screws into. I have just done this to make tools to test certian sensors on other applications.

Thanks for the responses. This is actually for a friend of mine. He's after increased performance, throttle response and some noise. Does this seem like a decent decision or do they make performance converters or what other options are out there? It seems a bit shaky hoping this whole mod will work on a questionable spacing of rear o2 sensors to fake them out. It's very possible I don't know what I'm talkin' about on this, but just wondering. Thanks again.

The newer trucks, 98 and up are tuned to perform best with the catalytic convertor. You can buy high flow cats for it, but I would suggest leaving the ones on it. You will only notice a 4-5hp gain even after you figure out your O2 thing

Well now you've led me to my next question then. I started this thread talking about a friends '05 2500 with 6.0. With your statement about '98 and newer, what do you suggest on a '97 Suburban with 5.7 as far as catalytic converters and o2 sensors? Thanks.
