Hey guys I need help on my 2000 cavalier I had to replace the ignition cylinder with a new key aswell, the car turns but does not start, is there any other way to reboot the computer, it show the theft system when I turn the key, Are there any methods as to how to reprogram the key without having to go to the dealer. thanks

If your key has the sensor in it then it will have to go to a dealer to have the computer reprogrammed. The old GM starter interrupt systems were easy to "trick", or just flat bypass, but I do not know any tricks for a 2000 model.

How did you remove the plastic casing under the wheel? That's what has me stuck right now!

First of all, the 2000 has the Passkey II system, the key does not have the resistor like the earlier Passkey I system, so doing the resistor trick will not work.
Second, get yourself the Innova 3150 scan tool which also does ABS checks or one of the cheaper Innova scan tools that will erase/reset the computer error code.
How do i know all this you ask, because i am already into the same problem, i called the GM dealer here where i live and they want $115.00 an hour to reset the ECU, am I choked with this kind of robbery, you bet i am, so i went a purchased my own scan tool, for $193.18 and it will be here in a couple of weeks.
Somebody has gone and put an after market command start system in the car, and of course i don't have any information, so i am yanking it out and repairing the wiring back to factory.

To remove the steering wheel column trim, you probably need to pull the steering wheel.
