Default Aveo Throttle Position Sensor Replacement

If you end up getting one of the several codes relating to the throttle position sensor don't panic. This is a repair that can be done easily with basic tools. First off the Aveo's (at least on my 07) TPS is NOT user serviceable. It is part of the throttle body assembly and must be serviced as a single unit. The unit can be obtained from your friendly AC Delco parts counter for about $170 dollars. Replacement is easy.
First loosen the clamp holding the air intake hose and remove from the throttle body located on top of the engine. Just follow the hose from the air filter box and there it is.
Remove the two hoses on top of the throttle body by undoing the spring clamps with pliers.
Disconnect the throttle position sensor wire harness.
The throttle body is attached with one bolt and three nuts. Carefully remove these. Be especially careful with the nuts so you don't drop one of them. You will find that various extenders and a universal socket joint will serve you well.
Pull the old unit off and wipe the mating surface (on the engine) clean with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Check the mating surface of the new throttle body to ensure it is smooth and clean.
Carefully work the new unit onto the mounting studs and replace the nuts and the bolt. Tighten in a manner similar to tightening a car tire's fasteners.
Re-attach the wiring harness for the tps.
Re-connect the vacuum hoses on the top of the unit.
Re connect the air intake hose.
That's it! Run the engine through a few cycles for the computer reset itself and cancel the check engine light.
