Default Towing Silverado or Tahoe

New to the site. I have a move scheduled for the end of the month from Florida to Nevada and will be moving with my 08 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Z71 5.3 with a 6" procomp and 35x20's and my wifes new '10 Tahoe LS with 5.3.

I am going to be getting a 16'-18' car hauler.

I wanted to get an idea of what you guys think about possibly using the Tahoe for the towing. I know the first reaction might be use the truck, however think gas mileage and comfort would be much better in the Tahoe. We are moving with 2 kids and 2 dogs.

Biggest question is can the Tahoe do it? What do the vehicles weigh? What can they tow?

Thanks

I will be towing the other vehicle. Like I said with the kids and dogs the Tahoe would be more comfortable. However worried about capabilities.

Yes, I am buying a 16-21 foot car hauler trailer. I am trying to decide which one should do the towing and which one will be on the trailer. I looked at the sticker on the door and the sticker on the receiver and they are identical on both vehicles. Because I have 2 kids and 2 dogs and I am driving 3,000 miles the Tahoe would be much more comfortable. I am just a little worried about whether it can be done.

Unless you regeared the truck to compensate for the 35" tires i would think that the tahoe would be the better choice if it is stock. with that being said you just need to figure out the weight of both the trailer and the truck and all the weight you are putting in the vehicle and see if its anywhere close to what the tahoe is rated to tow.

Just for reference (from edmunds.com), the Tahoe's curb weight is 5894 lbs, your truck's curb weight is 5326, plus a bit more for those bigger tires.

The 2010 2WD Tahoe with the Heavy Duty Trailering Package can tow up to 8,500 pounds. The next highest is the 4WD version with the Heavy Duty Trailering Package which can tow up to 8,200 pounds. The 2WD without the package can tow up to 5,400 pounds and the 4WD without the package can tow up to 5,200 pounds. Depending on which one you have you could be ok. The Silverado also gets a heavy duty package which allows it to tow up to 10,200 with the 2WD and 10,500 with the 4WD. Without the package it can tow up to 8,700 in the 2WD and 8,500 in the 4WD. The curb weight of a 2010 2WD Tahoe is 5636 for the 4WD the curb weight is 5894. The Silverado 2WD curb weight is 5142 and the 4WD curb weight is 5371. I hope all of this information helps you to find out which vehicle to tow with. If you need any more information you can contact me through the forum.
