Default how/where to put a x-pipe?

I have 2.25 in true dual exhaust and have been readin a lot about crossovers so I bought the magnaflow x-pipe for my truck. when it came in I put it under my truck to see where to weld it but noticed it's wider than my exhaust. The center of 1 inlet to the other inlet on the crossover in 4 inches I believe and the center of my pipes are 3 inches. So how would I go about weldin it up without havin to replace the whole exhaust? and where should I mount it at?

A call to Magnaflo might be in order here.

I thought you wanted them closer to the cats not down by the muffler? and I've takin it to an exhaust shop and they told me to redo the system but I have a feeling they just want me to buy a new exhaust because I've already figured a way on how to weld it up I just have to get some time to do it

it doesn't matter to much but years go(pre 1975)we would put it where the exh pulses even out. a good way to find that is to rev the engine and look for the blue spot to end on new pipes or wipe a some light oil on pipes when its cold and look for the hot smoky spot to end and put it there to split the differences. experimenting could find that sweet spot. but even easier, install where it intersects at a point below the transmission tail shaft housing

Well I got it put on today at a different muffler shop that wasn't tryin to get me to buy a new exhaust and it didn't really change the noise level that much. I still have my glasspack rasp and high revs and down low its smoother...I can say that it gave me more power. It seems to pick up much quicker
